As a fictional example, our user of this prototype is Michael Taylor. Michael is 42, and owns and manages a livestock farm in Devon. Every winter, Michael is faced with a number of decisions which are affected by the weather. For example, if it is likely to be very wet, be may need to house his herd indoors, and if grass growth is slowed by cold temperatures, he might need to buy in feed. Until now, it has been difficult to get hold of weather forecasts for more than a week or so ahead. But by being involved with the prototype, Michael has received a monthly outlook for temperature and rainfall for the next three months. He is not entirely sure whether the prototype will give him an edge or not but he is open to giving it a go. So far, it has been useful background information in making shorter-term decisions although the forecasts are quite general and not always accurate. But by being involved, Michael has made suggestions that the project team hope to take forward in making the prototype more useful for farmers like him.
